The hang tag, also called the swing tag, is the red heart tag attached to Ty Beanies Babies. The
"generation" or "version" of a hang tag helps to determine the age of a Beanie Baby. Tags also determine the worth of a Beanie Baby. There are five versions of the Ty Beanie Babies Hang Tags. All information and pictures was scanned from "mary beths bean bag world magazine"
First Generation

The first version tag, introduced in early 1994. It is a single red heart tag, (does not with a small "ty" on the front. The type on the reverse of the tag includes "The Beanie Babies Collection", the beanie name and style number. Some tags were produced in China and others Korea. First Generation hang tags came only on those Beanie Babies with a first generation tush tag dated 1993.
Second Generation

The second version heart tag, introduced in spring 1994, has the same small "ty" on the front of the heart. Instead of a single tag, this second version up. The inside left of the tag designates where the beanie was ment to be distributed. The inside right of the tag gives the beanie name and the style number. The back of the heart tag has a large bar code and the sentence "retain tag for reference" Second generation hang tags came on Beanies with first generation tush tags dated 1993.
Third Generation

The third generation hang tag, introduced in spring 1995, Has the "Ty" on the front printed in balloon style font enlarged to almost the full size of the heart. On the inside right of the tag is the name of the Beanie, the style number, and 'to' and 'from' with love. Third generation hang tags came on Beanies with first generation tush
tags dated 1993 and 1995 as well as second generation tush tags dated 1993 and 1995.
Fourth Generation

The fourth version tag, introduced in spring 1996, features many changes. The "ty" lettering on the
front of the tag is moved so the "y" is a bit lower then the "t" and a yellow star with the words "Beanie Baby
original" written on it are found in the top right hand corner of the tag. The inside right of the tag, has the Beanie name, style number, the birthdate is underneath followed by a poem and then Ty's website address. The hearts backside has a new type that says, "for ages 3 and up" followed by "surface wash" Fourth generation hang tags came on Beanies with
third generation tush tags dated 1993, 1995 and 1996, fourth generation tush tags dated 1993, 1995 and 1996 as well as fifth generation tush tags dated 1993, 1995 and 1996.
Fifth Generation

The fifth version tag, introduced in early 1998, is virtually the same as the fourth version. The tag
has a new type face as does the yellow star on the front of the tag. The TM after "The Beanie Babies Collection" has been changed to ®. The birthdate of the Beanie is now spelled out instead of cited numerically and "Visit our webpage" has been deleted, with only "www.ty.com" shown. The back of the tag is unchanged except for the font face. Fifth generation hang tags come on Beanies with sixth generation tush tags dated 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 and seventh generation tush tags dated 1999.
