Clip Art makes a wonderful addition for newsletters, websites or other documennts. These visual images and graphics add color and character, create interest, and can also help illustrate points in your document.
Here are instructions to download, save and insert a clip art image into a document.
To Download and Save an Image:
- Right click on the image.
- Click Save Picture As… (or Save Image As… depending upon your browser.) The Save Picture dialog window will open.
- Choose where you would like to save the image, e.g., on the desktop or in My Pictures folder. (The My Pictures folder is the default window, but you can also use the Save in: drop down box and choose another location. Just remember where you saved it.)
- In the File name: box type the name of the image, choosing something that you’ll remember.
- Click Save.
To Use an Image in a Document:
- Open the Word document that you will be using.
- Click Insert from the menu toolbar.
- Choose Picture from the dropdown menu.
- Click From File… The Insert Picture dialog window will open.
- Locate where you saved the image, e.g. on the desktop or in My Pictures.
- Click on the image.
- Click Insert. The image should now be in your document.
Education World has an article by Walter McKenzie Clip Art 101 that may be useful to you in finding and using clip art, downloading it and using copyrighted material.
Check out the following websites for free clip art. But remember, before you use any of the clip art, review the website’s Terms of Use or Copyright Poicies at the bottom of the web page to learn about their policy in using this material. Since most material on the web is copyrighted, contact the owner for permission to use it. Make sure you save the copy of the written permission you receive.
