Q. What is the difference between the CyberStart desktops?
A. Most facilities have a Kids and a Staff desktop.
The Kids desktop is designed for children to use and limits access to programs and computer controls. Staff control which programs are accessible by the children. Programs cannot be installed or uninstalled from this desktop. Always have children use the Kids desktop.
The Staff desktop is password-protected and provides access to all programs and CyberStart email through Microsoft Outlook. Programs can be installed and uninstalled from this desktop. Children should never use the Staff desktop.
Some computers also have a Maintenance desktop which is more restrictive than Staff and controls all system settings and. This is used only for adding or removing programs or changing settings. Children should never use the Maintenance desktop.[Posted on April 12, 2006]
