How-To Guide: Keyboard Troubleshooting

Q.   I’m pushing the keys on the keyboard but it isn’t responding. What should I do?

A. To troubleshoot your keyboard, do the following:

  • Check to see if the keyboard cable has been disconnected from the keyboard port. Reinsert it if it has.
  • Is the program frozen? Use CTRL-ALT-DEL to check for ‘Not responding’ programs and close them.
  • If you have a keyboard from another computer, test it.
    • Turn off the computer.
    • Disconnect the old keyboard and connect the new keyboard.
    • Turn back on the computer. If this keyboard works, your original keyboard may need to be replaced.
    • If this keyboard doesn’t work, your keyboard port may be bad.
