How-To Guide: Using Kid Pix
Q. I am looking for new ideas for using Kid Pix in my 3 year old classroom. What do you suggest?
A. Kid Pix can be integrated into almost any lesson plan or project. I went to the Tools for Learning Teacher’s Guide (which came with Kid Pix Deluxe 4) to see what it offered. Not all versions of Kid Pix include this resource guide so I also did a Google search for “preschool kid pix lesson plans” for more ideas.
- Read the book Stone Soup and have the children create their own soup kettles and select foods to put in their soup. This lesson can incorporate counting, classifying, listening, learning, and drawing.
- Use Kid Pix to create Alphabet or Numbers books which help children learn numbers and letters by creating their own picture books. Assign each child a letter or number and have them create a page with the number or letter, a picture of an object that begins with the letter (or represents the number, ex: 3 eggs for number 3), assemble pages into a book, and make copies for each child.
- Doing a project on plants? Create a slide show to document the growth of the plant over a one month period.
- Learning to classify? Create a chart and use stickers to classify, count, and sort animals by characteristics.
- Studying butterflies? Apply science, language arts, and reading as you integrate The Hungry Caterpillar and Kid Pix Slide Show into a study of the life cycle.
