Spotlight on Transportation

Children

Here are some websites for children to enjoy online.

MonkeybarTV Jr. is a website for preschoolers and parents where you can play games with online Hasbro products. The Matching Games page has Tonka Road Signs and Trucks Matching Games, as well as a Wheel Pals Matching Game. You can select one of 4 levels of play, from practice with 4 cards (or signs, or trucks) to expert with 16.

Visit Sesame Street Workshop, take a Road Trip with Elmo to The City and help Elmo find 3 signs, Stop, Don’t Walk, and One Way, and also a Traffic Light. There is also a very brief overview of each sign along with safety information for the respective sign.

Parents

Here are some activities that you can do with your children at home.

Artists Helping Children is a site dedicated to comforting children. Their Kids Arts & Crafts Ideas & Projects page has an extensive list of Transportation Arts & Crafts Project Ideas for Children. Just scroll down and pick the craft that you and your child would enjoy doing together.

About:Family Crafts offers craft patterns, templates and projects that you can do with your child in the Transportation Craft Projects pages. There are crafts for Air Transportation, Ground Transportation, including School Bus crafts, and Water Transportation. There is also a section with coloring pages.

Teachers

There are so many websites offering resources on transportation and related activities, and we’ve highlighted just a few.  So check them out!

Linda’s Learning Links is a website developed by a kindergarten teacher for teachers and parents of young children. It has a Transportation Unit featuring a list of books pertaining to transportation and also has math, science, social studies, language arts, music and art activities.

PreKinders is Karen Cox’s Pre-Kindergarten/Pre-K Class website for exchanging ideas with fellow teachers. The Transportation Unit lists sub-topics for Cars & Trucks, Boats, Trains, and Airplanes with activities in music, art, literacy, fine motor skills, math, and science. There are also links to other transportation unit resources.

The Activity Idea Place has a Transportation unit  with art activities, math/science/games, and songs and group time activities.

Preschool by Stormie has a Transportation/Traffic Lights listing of activities from Stormie and other preschool teachers. The ideas include math, art, and language activities.
