Visit treetown with Lola from the Treehousetv.com website and select from some of your favorite Treehouse TV characters. Choose Babar, Little Bear, Max and Ruby, or Rolie Polie Olie plus other characters and color pictures, listen to music, watch videos, and play games with each of them.

Good Beginnings Maui Young Child Development in Maui County, Hawaii is a website for parents, grandparents, early learning practitioners, or anyone who loves children and features lots of information on child development. There is a brief article on social-emotional development for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Illinois Early Learning Project
The Illinois Early Learning Project (IELP) has a web site with information on early care and education for parents, caregivers, and teachers of young children and offers printable tip sheets. Here is a tip sheet dealing with the social-emotional developmental issue of Helping Children Develop “Impulse” Control (PDF format)
Nick Jr.
Nick Jr, has a fun read-along book for you and your preschooler with Dora the Explorer. “Little Stars Wish” is a story about Little Star wanting a best friend. You can select the book in English or Spanish.

Treehousetv.com, developed and maintained by Corus Interactive, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc., is based on Treehouse TV. The activities on the website are developed for parents and their preschoolers to enjoy together. There are lots of information and activities related to self-concept on the Kids Chalkboard website. Scroll down to Self-Concept Activities in the left frame and click for ideas and activities related to feelings and emotions, growing, family, and the uniqueness of each child.

Childhood is the time for children to learn how to get along with others. PBS’ The Whole Child has an article Getting Along Together: Developing Social Competence in Young Children for early learning practitioners with information on modeling behavior, conflict resolution, daily routines, and cooperation vs. competition. There are also activities and a suggested reading list to accompany the article.

Preschool by Stormie has an All About Me (and Promoting an “I Can” Attitude) page with songs, snacks, fingerplays, height charts, and suggested books to promote a positive self-concept.
