How-To Guide: Retrieving a CD that is stuck in a CD drive

Q.   A CD is stuck in the CD Drive and the drive won’t open. What should I do?

A. There is a manual release that opens a CD drive so that you can remove a CD that is stuck in the drive. To open the drive:

  • Unwind a paperclip.
  • Stick the end of the clip in the very small opening on the drive tray. The opening is usually located near the eject button.
  • This is the manual release for the drive tray.
  • The drive door should pop open.
  • Remove the CD.
  • Press the eject button to close the drive tray.
